Driving school or driving education involves teaching an individual to drive a vehicle. It started in Great Britain in 1909, leading to the founding of Britain’s most experienced driving school in 1910, the British School of Motoring. Later, traffic safety classes were taught in the United States, leading to the integration of a driving course in 1927. The business began to grow throughout the 1920s and 1930s in the US afterward.

Driving school includes both written and vision tests for the individual so that they can obtain a learner’s permit., which allows them to have permission to practice driving on the road under the supervision of an already trained individual. During this period, they must also attend driving courses at an institute that officially teaches them how to drive so that they may be deemed eligible to take a driving exam. These courses can take place at the institute itself or online. The driving exam will be on its own course, then will be taken on the road. The youngest age an individual can apply for a licence in the United Kingdom is fifteen and nine months, but they must be sixteen to drive a moped and seventeen to drive a car. In the United States, it varies a little more. Some states allow teens as young as fifteen to start learning. But to have a licence, they must be sixteen in some states and eighteen in others.

There are several types of driver’s licences someone can obtain. The most common is the non-commercial, or Class C licence, which is the standard licence for car driving. In addition, there’s the Class A/B license which allows non-commercial driving with trailers towed. There is also the licence for Class A/B/C commercial vehicles, such as trucks. There is Class D, which is for passenger cars, but also with the ability to tow trailers and RVs. Finally, there is Class M, which is for motorbikes. After an individual has learned how to drive, there are advanced learning courses such as defensive driving. Defensive driving involves a more confident and alert driver who can anticipate the actions of other drivers, thus, they are better at safety techniques than typical drivers.
